1. OPN Seeks Relay Stations

The Ontario Phone Net (OPN) is currently seeking stations to carry
radiogram traffic to, and bring radiogram traffic from, Ontario
municipalities and other radio nets. No special qualifications
other than HF privileges are required. Merely check into the OPN, any
evening at 7 pm Eastern on 3.745 MHz, and inform the net control

1. New NTS EAS Chair

Joe Ames W3JY has been elected as the National Traffic System's new
Eastern Area Staff Chair effective January 1, 2015. Outgoing chair
Marcia Forde KW1U will continue on the staff as TCC Director for
Eastern Area Cycle 2.

For traffic handling purposes, Ontario is considered part of the
Eastern Area.

1. RAC Announces 2014 Scholarships

Radio Amateurs of Canada has granted three academic scholarships for
2014. The recipients are Ms. Sonja Andersson, VA7SAA attending
British Columbia Institute of Technology, Mr. Russell Walter, VA3WTR
attending Sheridan College, Institute of Technology, and Mr. Brad
Lane, VE9BML, attending the University of New Brunswick.

The annual RAC Winter Contest will be held from 0000 to 2359 UTC on
Saturday, December 27. Operate CW and phone on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15,
10, 6 and 2 metres. Stations in Canada send RS(T) and province or
territory. VEØs and stations outside Canada send RS(T) and a serial

has been undergoing some beta testing and last-minute tweaking over

The RACE and GOMX-2 CubeSats were among more than 2 dozen satellites
lost after an unmanned Orbital Space Sciences (OSC) Antares 130
vehicle exploded 6 seconds after launch on Tuesday, October
28. Both satellite packages carried Amateur Radio payloads.
