ONTARIO SECTIONS NEWS

1. New NTS EAS Chair

Joe Ames W3JY has been elected as the National Traffic System's new
Eastern Area Staff Chair effective January 1, 2015. Outgoing chair
Marcia Forde KW1U will continue on the staff as TCC Director for
Eastern Area Cycle 2.

For traffic handling purposes, Ontario is considered part of the
Eastern Area.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

2. The Imitation Game

If you go out to see The Imitation Game this month -- a film based on
the life of World War II codebreaker Alan Turing -- keep an eye open
for vintage HRO and AR88 receivers. Those receivers were loaned by
British radio amateurs, after filmmakers asked the Radio Society of
Great Britain and The Old Radios Team for help. See more at

3. Cross-Border ARES Exercise in Maine

On the morning of December 13, Maine ARES convened a 40 meter
"cross-borders" net on 7262 kHz to test the communication paths for
that band and time for operators in Maine, New Hampshire, and the
bordering Canadian provinces. Maine ARES Section Emergency
Coordinator Phil Duggan, N1EP said the net attracted 33 check-ins
from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode
Island, and Vermont. Several state and provincial ARES members and
emergency coordinators participated. Similar events are planned for
the future.

4. FAR Scholarship Applications Open

The non-profit Foundation for Amateur Radio is now accepting
applications for 2015 scholarships. These are available to licensed
radio amateurs who are enrolled, or have been accepted for
enrollment, at an accredited university, college or technical school.
Several of the scholarships are available to Canadian students.
Applications are due by March 30, 2015. For more information, or to
