The four new Ontario Section Managers are:

1. Question Bank Updates

Radio Amateurs of Canada and Industry Canada are undertaking a
review of exam questions in the Basic and Advanced qualifications.
We welcome suggestions and comments from Amateur Radio Operators, on
the following topics:

a. What questions are not technically correct in the current exams?
b. Which questions are no longer relevant to the Amateur Radio
Service and should be removed?
c. Which topics should be added to the exams to replace older
questions?

ONTARIO SECTION NEWS

1. New Eastern Ontario DEC

Effective September 1st, Lance Peterson VA3LP has been appointed
District Emergency Coordinator (DEC) for the Eastern Ontario ARES
District, previously known as Seaway/Capital District.

Lance has been an advanced amateur radio operator since 1978, and
served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an avionics technician.
He has been Assistant DEC since 2004 and has also served as interim
EC for Prescott-Russell ARES. Please join me in supporting Lance in

1. New Ontario Section Boundaries

On September 1, the current Ontario Section will be replaced by four
new Sections: Ontario North (ONN), Ontario East (ONE), Ontario South
(ONS), and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The new sections are
described on the RAC blog at blog.rac.ca, or see the map at
tinyurl.com/rac2012map. All four Section Manager Positions have
been filled and will be announced shortly.

1. RAC Edmonton Conference Cancelled

The organizers of the Conference that was to be held at the Concordia
University College in Edmonton, Alberta, on 10-12 August have advised
RAC that the Conference has been cancelled.

RAC wishes to thank the organizers for their hard work in preparing
for that conference and regrets the need for the cancellation. RAC
understands that those persons who have registered are in the process
of having their registration fee refunded and that the Conference

1. Ottawa-based Technically Qualified volunteer needed

As a member of the Canadian Interoperability Technology Interest
Group, RAC has been invited to appoint a volunteer to sit on
the 700Mhz definition working group. This group will sit at the table
with Public Safety Canada, government agencies and the private
business sector to develop the 700Mhz Emergency Communications
program. It is anticipated that two or three Ottawa meetings will be
necessary as well as occasional teleconferences. If you possess skills

1. Laurentian Net seeks net controllers

The Laurentian Net is looking for additional Net Control Operators.
This is an information and traffic handling net that meets at 18:45
