The British Columbia QSO Party will run from 1600z Feb 2 to 0400z
Feb 3. The objective for stations outside BC is to contact as many

1. OPN Manager Appointed

The Section Managers of Ontario are pleased to announce the
appointment of Pat Dopson, VE3HZQ as the Manager of the Ontario Phone
Net, effective January 2. Mr. Dopson is the Section Traffic Manager
of the Ontario North Section and has a wealth of experience working
traffic nets in Canada and the United States.

1. Distracted Driving Update

RAC is pleased to inform Ontario hams that Ontario Regulation 253/12
has amended the amateur radio exemption sections of former Ontario
Regulation 366/09. This extends the amateur radio exemption for
hand-held devices until January 1, 2018.

RAC will continue to pursue a permanent exemption for Amateur Radio
operators in Ontario, similar to those in many other provinces.

1. RAC Section Manager election results
Congratulations to Craig Seaboyer VE1DSS who was recently elected
Section Manager for the Maritimes for the balance of a two year term
that commenced March 1, 2012. He ran unopposed eliminating the need
for a balloted election.

The Toronto ARES D-Star Net has moved from reflector XRF005A to
XRF005B, and has added a 1.2 GHz repeater.

1. RAC Club Liability Insurance

Affiliated Clubs are reminded that their current Liability Insurance
expires 31 Dec 2012 and it must be renewed BEFORE 31 Dec 2012. TIME
IS RUNNING OUT. It is the club's responsibility to complete the
necessary forms and have them processed to ensure continuation of
their Liability Insurance. With offices being closed during the
holiday season your immediate attention is required.

1. Diamond Jubilee Special Prefix
From December 29 to December 30, Canadian amateurs have been
authorized to use special prefixes in commemoration of the Diamond
Jubilee Year of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Use CF for VA, CG
for VE, CH for VO, and CI for VY.

1. Weather Radio Net new reflector

The Weather Radio Listeners Newsletter net will switch IRLP
reflectors as of Saturday December 8th. The net has moved back one
hour to 7:00 PM ET and it will switch to IRLP reflector 9038. This is
due to a demand for Echolink check-ins and this should also help to
expand the scope of the net. For more information or to sign up for

1. IRLP/EchoLink Weather Net

The Weather Radio Listeners Newsletter Net meets every Saturday night
starting at 7 pm Eastern Time on IRLP Reflector 9034, and if you have
a computer, Echolink node 223557. It is hosted by Gordon Maybee,
VA3WXA, and has information about Weather Radio and also CANWARN.

We hope to make this a Cross Canada Net to include all provinces and
Territories. We are looking for Québec stations as we do not yet
have anyone checking in from there. For more information go to

RAC Ontario Section Bulletin for November 17, 2012

1. VE3KZ appointed to Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Robert Nash VE3KZ of Milton, ON, who has been
appointed to the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame. The
appointment recognizes an amateur for outstanding achievement for
sustained service to amateur radio in Canada, or amateur radio at
large. Bob will be presented with this award in Toronto in early
2013, at which time a more detailed summary of his contributions to
amateur radio will be published in The Canadian Amateur magazine.

1. Ontario North Section Appointments

The following appointments in Ontario North Section Field Services
are effective November 1st:

Dave Hayes, VE3JX, of Sault Ste. Marie, is Section Emergency
Coordinator. Dave was a former EC for the City of Sault Ste. Marie
and the DEC for Albany District, and recently sat as a board member
on the section restructuring advisory committee.
