1. RAC Convention Update

The RAC Convention 2012 speakers list has been updated. The
convention is being held August 10-12 at Concordia University
College, Alberta. For the latest information visit their web site,

2. Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival

The Niagara Peninsula Amateur Radio Club will operate special event
station VE3WCD, for the 34th annual Canal Days Marine Heritage
Festival, in Port Colborne, on the Welland Canal. Operations will be
on August 4th and 5th from 1300Z to 1800Z, on or about 7.250, 14.250,
21.250 and 28.250 MHz. The group will also have RAC and ARES
displays for the visiting public. For QSL information look up VE3WCD

3. Hymers Fair Special Event

From August 15 to September 14, call sign VX3FAIR will commemorate
the 100th Hymers Fall Fair. The fair itself is September 2 and 3 in
Hymers, near Thunder Bay. QSL via VE3XT.

4. CQ Adopts 5-Day Contest Log Deadline

Participants in CQ-sponsored contests will now have five days after
the end of a contest to either upload or mail their logs. Previously,
the contests had a four-week window for log submissions.

The change takes effect with this fall's CQ World Wide DX Contest
and will apply to all future CQ-sponsored contests.

5. Heathkit Declares Bankruptcy

The owner of the revived Heathkit company has confirmed that the
company is filing for bankruptcy. In August 2011, Heathkit announced
it was returning to the kit building business, and in September, that
it would once again be manufacturing Amateur Radio kits. The
business was not successful, and the assets of the company are now
being auctioned off.
