NATIONAL NEWS

1. VE6SH re-elected IARU President

Timothy S. Ellam, VE6SH/G4HUA, and Ole Garpestad, LA2RR, have been
elected IARU President and Vice President, respectively, for the
five-year term beginning 9 May 2014.

Mr. Ellam served as IARU Vice President from 2004 until 2009, and was
elected as IARU President on 9 May 2009 for a five-year term. Mr.
Garpestad was first elected as IARU Vice President in 2009 at the
same time Mr. Ellam became President.

RAC extends its sincere congratulations to Timothy Ellam for this
re-election and wish him the best during this new mandate.

3. London Vintage Radio Flea Market

The London Vintage Radio Club will hold its annual Flea Market on
Saturday, June 7, in the Hammond Manufacturing parking lot (east
side), 394 Edinburgh Rd. North, corner of Speedvale and Edinburgh, in
Guelph. Open at 7 am for vendors and public. The Hammond Museum of
Radio on Southgate Road will be open for visitors in the afternoon.

4. Streetsville Bread and Honey Festival

On Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8, the Mississauga Amateur Radio
Club will operate a special event station from the Streetsville Bread
and Honey Festival. Operating times are 1400 to 2000 UTC on each
day. SSB frequencies are 7.230 and 14.240 MHz +/- QRM. For more

5. WX4NHC Station Test

On Saturday, May 31, WX4NHC at the National Hurricane Center in
Miami, Florida, will be on the air for the annual NHC Station Test.
The event will begin at 1300 UTC and wrap up at 2200 UTC.

The annual Station Test is NOT a contest or simulated hurricane
exercise. WX4NHC will make brief contacts with participating
stations, exchanging signal reports and basic weather data. For
example, stations may report "sunny" or "rain" or "cloudy." WX4NHC
will operate HF on the Hurricane Watch Net frequency of 14.325
MHz, 30 meter APRS, and Winlink (subject line must contain "//WL2K").
WX4NHC also plans to be on the VoIP Hurricane Net from 2000 until
2200 UTC (IRLP node 9219; EchoLink WX-TALK Conference node 7203).

6. Training Guide for Traffic Handlers

Mark Rappaport W2EAG has re-written parts of his Training Guide for
Traffic Handlers. The revised version may be found here as a PDF
file: tinyurl.com/k7lhv9p (Kilo Seven Lima Hotel Victor Nine Papa).
There is a tremendous amount of information contained in the guide
and it should be required reading for anyone interested in traffic
handling.
