NATIONAL NEWS
1. Nominations Sought for RAC Executive
The two-year terms of all RAC Executive positions will expire on
December 31, 2011. This includes the President, Treasurer, Corporate
Secretary and all the Vice-Presidents. These positions are appointed
by the Board of Directors, and RAC is inviting nominations for all
positions.
If you are interested in any of these positions, please send a
500-word resume, in English or French, to RAC Corporate Secretary
Paul Burggraaf, vo1prb (at) rac.ca, by September 30.

2. Hall of Fame and Amateur of the Year Call for Nominations
Any resident of Canada who holds a current Amateur Radio Operator
Certificate issued by the Government of Canada, or any Canadian
Amateur Radio organization, other than Radio Amateurs of Canada, may
submit a nomination for Member of the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of
Fame. Membership in RAC is not mandatory.  A nomination form is on
the RAC Website at tinyurl.com/5vplc2h (Five Victor Papa Lima Charlie
Two Hotel).  Nominations must be received by September 30.
Nominations are also open for RAC Amateur of the Year.  To qualify,
an individual should have made an outstanding contribution to Amateur
Radio in the last year, or have contributed consistently to the
welfare of Amateur Radio over several years. Nominations with
supporting documentation are to be addressed to the Secretary, RAC,
and must be received by September 30.  For more information see

3. Alberta Hams Get Distracted Driving Exemption
Hams in Alberta have received a temporary exemption from a new
distracted driver law set to take effect on September 1st.  Any
individual who holds a Canadian radio operator certificate issued
under the Radiocommunication Act will be allowed to operate a vehicle
on a highway while holding, viewing or manipulating a 2-way radio
communication device.
The exemption expires on June 1, 2016, at which time it might be
renewed or amended.

4. Ham Radio Hangs On
