1. EmComm East in Rochester
The third annual EmComm East conference is slated for September 18,
in Rochester, New York.  EmComm East is an ARRL-sanctioned Amateur
Radio emergency communications conference where operators can attend
training sessions on technical topics, learn from served agencies,
and interact with other EmComm operators from all over the area.  For

2. Russians win WRTC
In a very close finish, the Russian duo of Vladimir Askenov RW1AC and
Alexey Mikhailov RA1AIP won a narrow victory in the 2010 World
Radiosport Team Championship, the first time a team from outside
North America has ever won the top prize in the "World Cup" of the
ham radio contest community.

3. VHF/UHF Contesting
Todd KC9BQA has published an eight-part series of articles aimed at
newcomers to VHF+ contesting. The articles are designed to help
someone get started with contests above 50 MHz. See them at

4. Operating on 2200m
As of December 2009, Canadian amateurs have been authorized to use
the 2200 metre band (135.7-137.8 kHz) on a secondary basis.  VE7SL
maintains the "136 kHz Report," listing who is on the air and who is
