NATIONAL NEWS

1. RAC Club Liability Insurance

Affiliated Clubs are reminded that their current Liability Insurance
expires 31 Dec 2012 and it must be renewed BEFORE 31 Dec 2012. TIME
IS RUNNING OUT. It is the club's responsibility to complete the
necessary forms and have them processed to ensure continuation of
their Liability Insurance. With offices being closed during the
holiday season your immediate attention is required.

2. RAC Canada Winter Contest

The 2012 RAC Canada Winter Contest will run from 0000 to 2359 UTC on
December 29, CW and phone, on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6, and 2
metres. The object is to work as many Canadian stations as possible.
Stations in Canada send RS(T) and province or territory. VE0s and
stations outside Canada send RS(T) and a serial number. For more

3. Straight Key Night on OSCAR

You are cordially invited to participate in Straight Key Night on
OSCAR 2013, conducted by AMSAT for all radio amateurs throughout the
world. This year's event is dedicated to the memory of John Thompson,
W1BIH/PJ9JT, who passed away in 2012.
SKN on OSCAR is simple and informal. Just operate CW through one or
more satellites on 1 January 2013 (0000 to 2400 UTC), using a
straight hand key. You need not send in a log, but all participants
are encouraged to nominate someone they worked for Best Fist.

4. Logbook of the World Updates
The ARRL has created a new informational page to issue daily status
updates and information of interest to the Logbook of The World
(LoTW) user community. These updates will include planned downtime
and changes that will impact LoTW operations. In addition, LoTW's
processing queue is now updated hourly, telling how many logs and
QSOs have been uploaded to the LoTW system and are awaiting
processing. New hardware that will improve LoTW's throughput is on
order and is expected to be running in six to eight weeks.

5. Amateur Radio High Altitude Ballooning
The web site www.arhab.org is "the premier site for near space
explorers and enthusiasts dedicated to the education and study of
aerospace science via Amateur Radio High Altitude Ballooning." Click
the "missions" link for a listing of recent and upcoming balloon
flights.
