ONTARIO SECTION NEWS
1. CANWARN Training, April 16-18
CANWARN training will be offered at these locations:
Hamilton, April 16th, 9 AM, in the Nash Auditorium, Wilcox Building,
Chedoke Hospital, on Sanatorium Road.  Free parking is available
across from the Wilcox building.
Leamington, April 18th, 7 PM, at the Kinsmen Recreational Complex,
249 Sherk St.  Parking lot access off of Ellison St.
If you will be attending a CANWARN training session, please send an
email to Geoff.Coulson (at) ec.gc.ca, so that he can reserve space.

2. Durham Region Hamfest
The North Shore ARC and South Pickering ARC will hold their 2011
hamfest Saturday, April 16, at a new location: the Pickering
Recreation Complex, 1867 Valley Farm Rd.; just one block east of
Pickering Town Centre.  Open to the public at 9 am; talk-in on VE3SPA
repeater, 147.375 (+) tone 103.5 Hz.  For more information visit

3. World Amateur Radio Day
Monday, April 18 is World Amateur Radio Day. The International
Amateur Radio Union has  announced the theme this year to be "Amateur
Radio: The first technology-based social network"

4. Canadian School Contacts ISS
On Wednesday, March 30th, students from the Canterbury High School in
Ottawa made a scheduled ham radio contact with the International
Space Station as it passed overhead.  Read the Ottawa Citizen

5. Ham-Ex in the News
The organizers of the Ham-Ex Hamfest were able to get coverage of the
event in the Brampton Guardian newspaper.  You can see it on-line at

6. New VLF Website
Roger, G3XBM, has launched a new website, "Sub 9kHz Amateur Radio,"
to promote sharing of information among hams interested in VLF (Very
Low Frequency) communication.  The site will include distance
records, information on earth-mode communications, transmit setups,
and a kit to receive signals on this very long wavelength band.
