NATIONAL NEWS
1. Special Event Station VC1J
On Sunday, October 24th, the Westcumb ARC in Amherst, NS will operate
special event station VC1J to commemorate 65th Anniversary of the
United Nations and UNESCO.  The station will operate from the Joggins
Fossil Cliffs which became a UNESCO site last year.  A special QSL
card will be available.

2. Special Event Station CG3MUG
During the month of November 2010, special event station CG3MUG
will be operated to celebrate the 100th  birthday of the Thunder Bay
Marine Communications and Traffic Centre, VBA.  For more information

3. New RAC HQ Appointments
I am pleased to announce that Chris Wiesner, VA3SM has assumed the
position of Office Co-ordinator and Dave Parks, VE3AV/VA2LGQ, is
continuing in his role as Membership Administrator. Chris is
full-time while Dave is part-time. Offices hours are Monday to
Friday from 10:00  to 16:00 Eastern Time and the telephone number is
613-244-4367 or toll-free 877-273-8304.
Our treasurer has also engaged the part-time services of Lyne
Lamothe-Phillips as bookkeeper. With these changes we look forward to
offering improving service to Canadian Amateurs in general and our
members in particular.

4. Please Keep 7065 kHz Clear
In response to Hurricane Karl, which came onshore in Mexico as a
Category 3 hurricane, the Mexican Emergency Net is operating on
7065 kHz. All stations not involved in passing hurricane-related
traffic are requested to keep that frequency clear, according to
IARU Caribbean area Emergency Coordinator Arnie Coro, CO2KK.

5. Echolink for Android and iPhone
EchoLink software is now available free of charge for Android and
iPhone smartphones.  If you own one of these devices and are a
validated EchoLink user, you can access the EchoLink system from
nearly anywhere where WiFi or 3G networking is available. EchoLink
for Android is available from the Android Market; EchoLink for iPhone
from the Apple App Store.  For more information see
