It is my sad duty to report the passing of: William Cecil Kitto KITTO, Rev. Dr. William Cecil - Peacefully on Tuesday October 13th, 2009, in North Bay, Ontario, in his 99th year. Bill was predeceased by Thelma, his wife of 68 years. He was the loving father of Barbara Babcock and her husband John of Wiarton, and of Rick Kitto and his wife Susan of London. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Andy Pugliesi, of New Orleans, Carl Pugliesi and his wife Aileen of Owen Sound, Karen Kitto and her husband Mike Collins of Chicago, and Rob Kitto, of London. Bill was proud of his great-granddaughters, Martas, Gabriella & Carmella of Owen Sound, and Jelena & Sadie of Chicago. Bill was also predeceased by his brother Frank. Bill was selfless and tireless in his work with the church, having served in many communities including, Nakina, Massey, Coniston, New Liskeard, Paris, Timmins, and North Bay over the course of four decades. During his long career he was active locally, not only with the preparation of services and the general running of the church, but also with men's groups, community activities, and Ecumenical and inter-faith initiatives. On a broader level, he was a President of the Toronto Conference of the United Church of Canada, and taught Religious Studies courses to Nipissing University students. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree for his accomplishments. Although nominally retired in 1977, he continued to be active in North Bay affairs for another 25 years, presiding over church services, baptisms, weddings, and funerals; teaching religion courses, counseling many people, and conducting retirement seminars. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (464 Wyld St., North Bay) on Thursday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Then at Trinity United Church (111 McIntyre St., North Bay) on Friday October 16th from 12:00 noon until time for services at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reception in the Church Hall.
