20120606 - VE3NLH - Norm Richardson SK

Body:

I just received a call with news that I am still trying to process.
I can't really believe what I heard, but we have lost a club member and a friend, and the amateur community at large has lost one of its shining lights.
Norm started having shortness of breath in the past few days, and went to the local hospital to be checked out. Tests were inconclusive, and his family suggested getting checked out by a specialist in Toronto.
Norm didn't make it. He was found at home today when his phone went unanswered.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

1205 CANWARN Training 2012 Report

Body:

CANWARN Training was held Thursday May 31 2012 at the North Bay Public Library. There was a good turnout. I didn't count but there were about 12 or 13 NBARC members. If we didn't outnumber the other participants we came close. Peter Kimbell from Environment Canada gave a good talk. Peter had a draw for a number of weather radios and two NBARC members Chris and Evelyn each won a weather radio. Coffee and doughnuts were provided and appreciated. It is aa good event and you can actually learn something.

Don't forget Patrick4Life in a week Sunday June 10th. If you are able to help sign up.

RAC Bulletin 2012-023E - Distracted Driving in Ontario
2012-04-17

On April 16 the MTO posted a regulatory notice proposing a change to
Ontario Regulation # 366/09 (Display Screens and Hand-Held Devices)
that would Extend the current exemption for licenced amateur radio
operators for an additional five years.

As you know, the exemption was due to expire at the end of this
calendar year, and Radio Amateurs of Canada has been lobbying for a
permanent exemption since this regulation was introduced back in 2009.
