1. Nominations due for Hall of Fame
Nominations for the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame must be
received by the close of business on Friday, Sept. 30. This award
recognizes deserving Canadian amateur radio operators for outstanding
achievement and sustained service to Amateur Radio in Canada or to
Amateur Radio at large. Nomination forms and details of the procedure

2. Ontario South Director Re-elected.
Congratulations to Jeffrey Stewart, VA3WXM, who was re-elected,
unopposed, as the RAC Director for Ontario South. Mr. Stewart was
initially voted in as the Director in May 2011; his term will be
extended to December 31, 2013.

3. U.S. Simulated Emergency Test
The ARRL Simulated Emergency Test (SET) is set for October 1-2, 2011.
This is the nationwide Amateur Radio emergency exercise in the U.S.,
involving ARES, NTS, the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service
(RACES) and members of the ARRL Field Organization. For more

4. Special Event Stations
From October 1 to October 31, special event station VC3ARCI will
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the QRP Amateur Radio Club

Also from October 1 to 31, special event station CJ3A will be active
on all HF bands for the Centennial of Parks Canada. QSL via VE3LA.
From October 21 to October 31, special event station VE2Z will
operate on all HF bands to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the
Founding of Lévis, PQ. QSL via VE2IDX.

5. CHIRP Radio Programming Software
CHIRP is a free cross-platform, cross-radio programming tool. It
works on Windows and Linux (and MacOSX with a little work). It
supports a growing list of radios across several manufacturers and
allows transferring of memory contents between them. Popular radios
like the TH-F6A, KG-UVD1P/UV2D/UV3D, TM-V71A, and many Alinco, Icom,
