1. Request for RTTY/Digital Operators' Comments

The DX Advisory Committee has been asked by the ARRL Programs
and Services Committee to comment on how the DXCC program
might be updated to accommodate digital modes other than RTTY.

For example: Should there be a separate DXCC award for digital modes

1. Simulated Emergency Test 2009

The Simulated Emergency Test is a North America-wide exercise in
emergency communications, administered by the ARRL and the RAC
Emergency Coordinators and Net Managers. Both the Amateur Radio

1. Appointment of Midwest Region Director

At a Special Meeting of the Radio Amateurs of Canada Board of
Directors, held May 5, 2009, Derek Hay, VE4HAY, was unanimously
appointed Midwest Region Director to fill the position left vacant by
the resignation of former director Devon Racicot, VE5DWR. Derek
brings to the Board a wealth of experience and will hold the post in
accordance with the RAC Constitution until a formal election can be

1. Resignation of Midwest Director

Due to increased demands on his personal and career schedules,
Midwest Director Devon Racicot, VE5DWR, has regretfully submitted his
resignation from the Radio Amateurs of Canada Board of Directors. The
RAC Board and Executive extends sincere thanks to Devon for his past
service, and best wishes for the future.

The Ontario Phone Net is looking for weekend operators to go to the
Second Region SSB Net, 3925 kHz at 1830 Eastern Time, to accept

1. Renewed Memorandum between RAC and Red Cross

A renewed Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the
Radio Amateurs of Canada Inc. and the Canadian Red Cross Society.
Replacing the original 1994 agreement, the MOU updates details and
clarifies the role played by Amateur Radio and in particular the RAC
Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) in time of disaster or other
events requiring emergency communications.

1. New RAC representative on ARRL Contest Advisory Committee.

After more than ten years as RAC's representative on the ARRL Contest
Advisory Committee, David Shipman, VE7CFD, has asked to be replaced.
RAC has then chosen Sam Ferris, VE5SF, to replace David. The ARRL has
already been advised of our choice and Sam is already starting his
work.

1. New DEC for Severn District

ARES Ontario is pleased to announce the appointment of Russ Hemphill,
VE3FI as the new DEC for the Severn District effective April 01,
2009. Russ will plan and develop emergency communications for
Haliburton, the Kawartha Lakes, and also assist other ARES Officials
at Peterborough and the adjacent Loyalist District.

1. Amateur Radio Direction Finding Coordinator Needed

Radio Amateurs of Canada is seeking an interested Radio Amateur to
volunteer as the Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) Coordinator
for Canada.

ARDF is the sport of finding radio transmitters while on foot, using
a radio receiver, map and compass in diverse, wooden terrain. The RAC
ARDF Coordinator's job is to promote the development of this sport
and work with ARDF Coordinators in other International Amateur Radio
