1. RAC Membership Poll:
Fellow amateur radio operators;
The Board and Executive of the Radio Amateurs of Canada are meeting at
the end of October to develop a vision for RAC in the 21st Century. In
addition we will be establishing a two year operational plan for 2011
and 2012.
We are asking current, past and future potential members of Radio
Amateurs of Canada, amateur radio clubs and associations to provide

1. IARU Region 2 Conference Reports

RAC President Geoff Bawden, VE4BAW, and Vice President International
Affairs Daniel Lamoureux, VE2KA, have been in Salinitas, San
Salvador to participate in the IARU Region 2 Triennial Conference
held from Oct 4th to 8th.  Their brief reports have been issued as

1. Alberta Section Training Coordinator appointed
I have been advised by National Training Coordinator Dave Drinnan,
VE9FK of the appointment of Ken McPherson VA6KM as STC for the
Alberta Section.  Ken has been a Ham since 1993 but has had an
interest in  radio since 1982. Ken has served in the Navy as a NCI-OP
(Naval Combat Information Operator) as well as the Armored Reserves
in Ottawa. Ken's background in training includes time as a Cadet

1. Simulated Emergency Test Dates
The Simulated Emergency Test (SET) is an annual emergency
communications exercise, administered by ARRL and RAC. Both the
Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) and the National Traffic
System (NTS) are involved.  The SET gives communicators the
opportunity to focus on the emergency-communications capability
within your community, while interacting with NTS nets.
For Canada EXCEPT Ontario, the SET will be held October 16.

1. Special Event Station VC1J
On Sunday, October 24th, the Westcumb ARC in Amherst, NS will operate
special event station VC1J to commemorate 65th Anniversary of the
United Nations and UNESCO.  The station will operate from the Joggins
Fossil Cliffs which became a UNESCO site last year.  A special QSL
card will be available.

1. Commercial Activity on 2m and 70cm
Industry Canada advised both RAC and RAQI on Friday, Sept 10, that
their Montreal office had temporarily authorized a number of 430 to
450 MHz frequencies, and a single VHF frequency on 145.555 MHz, to
support communications for many European entrants of a cycling event
to be held on Quebec City and Montreal on Sept 10 and Sept 12
respectively. According to IC, frequencies were chosen to avoid
known amateur repeater channels.

1. Pakistan Relief Frequencies
Several HF, VHF and UHF frequencies have been set aside for  relief
communications in Pakistan. The HF frequencies are 7.070, 14.200 and
14.300 MHz.  Please cooperate by keeping these frequencies clear.
