1. RAC Foundation Grants

Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) is seeking applications for grants
from amateurs across Canada in the following categories: Scholastic
Grants for deserving Amateur Radio Operators; Research Grants for
research and development related to Amateur Radio; Community Grants
for charitable institutions, senior homes, and youth centres; and
Emergency Grants for radio equipment for emergency service groups

We are especially interested in awarding grants to young amateurs at
the College or University level studying Electrical Engineering, or
another Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics program.
Send your College or University name, recent transcript, Amateur
Radio Certificate and a brief biography to RAC. For details and

2. VE3RCN on air for Museum Ships Weekend

On June 1 and 2, the retired Canadian submarine HMCS Ojibwa will join
95 other museum vessels around the world for the Museum Ships Weekend
amateur radio event. Operation will be primarly SSB and CW using
call sign VE3RCN (Royal Canadian Navy). For more information about

3. WX4NHC On-the-Air Station Test

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami will conduct its annual
station test on Saturday, June 1, from 1300-2100 UTC. The purpose is
to test all of their radio equipment and antennas, on as many modes
and frequencies as possible, in preparation for this year's hurricane
season. It is not a contest or simulated emergency exercise.

WX4NHC will be on the air on HF, VHF and UHF, as well as 2 and 30
meter APRS. Suggested SSB frequencies are 3.950, 7.268, 14.325,
21.325 and 28.425 MHz, +/-QRM. WX4NHC also will be on the VoIP
Hurricane Net from 1700-1900 UTC (IRLP node 9219/EchoLink WX-TALK
conference node 7203). Exchange call sign, signal report, location
and name, plus a brief weather report, such as "sunny," "rainy" or
"cloudy." QSL via WD4R with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

4. London Vintage Radio Flea Market

The London Vintage Radio Club will hold its annual flea market on
Saturday, June 8, in the parking lot of Hammond Manufacturing, 394
Edinburgh Road North (NW corner of Speedvale Avenue), in Guelph.
This is NOT the Hammond Museum Location. Entrance is from Speedvale
Avenue ONLY. Open at 7 am. For more information visit

5. VE3GWS Silent Key

After a battle with cancer, George Sansom VE3GWS passed away on
Monday, May 20. George was a former Electronics Technologist with
the Canadian Armed Forces, Correctional Service of Canada and Ontario
Provincial Police, and was an avid amateur radio operator.

6. Tesla Laboratory Saved

Thanks to an Internet fundraising campaign, the Tesla Science Center
has been able to purchase Wardenclyffe, the last remaining laboratory
of Nikola Tesla, located in Shoreham, New York. Over 33,000 people
from 108 countries contributed. The group plans to restore the
laboratory, turning it into a science centre and museum.
