10-01 (January 13) Meeting Report

Body:

The NBARC January meeting was held Wednesday January 13th 2010. Sorry it has taken me so long to get this newsletter out but between work and being laid up for a while I finally got a chance. In attendance were VA3SPT, VA3BDR, VA3PC, VE3MAA, VE3YO, VE3YYB, VA3OZ, VA3WAC, VE3GMG, VE3XKB and VE3KAA. Bill VA3SPT welcomed everyone to the first meeting of 2010. From the correspondence file we received a cheque from the Kiwanis Club for our help at the 2009 Triathalon. The HAITI Earthquake was mentioned. the main frequencies you can probably hear from here are 14.265 and 14.300. For more information see the NBARC Website and look under the RAC bulletins as Paul is keeping that up to date. From the treasurer.. Dues are Due. $20.00 per year. 2M net is doing well. Dave VE3GTM is having 10 to 11 check-ins Mondays. His improved set-up appears to be working well. 80M net is down a bit but still has 8-10 check-ins. The ARES trailer is still parked at my place. It is being kept dug out to the best of our ability. There was a Emergency Planning Meeting January 21st. Bill was going to attempt to attend. A number of us are headed to the Durham hamfest April 17th. A few of us are headed to the Dayton Hamvention May 14th-16th. A few members of the North Bay Cycle Club are looking at getting their ticket. There may be a course run in the future. Date TBD. The Contest Club is going to be running the Spring Contest. If you have ever wanted to see what contesting is all about do drop out. Stay tuned for futher. For the RAC news see the NBARC website. Paul posts all RAC bulletins on the website. There is nothing new on events at this time. Stay tuned as they are going to ramp up as the year progresses. Paul got the crystals for the radios. He has the APRS radio up and running well. The I-Gate software however has caused him to lose more hair. (I know you didn't think that was possible!)He is hoping soon. He also has the crystals for the VE3NFM UHF repeater. 442.000 (+5MHz). Now I have to figure out how to program it into the radio. He is not sure when it will be on the air so stay tuned.... There was a long and detailed discussion re the Constitution and By-Laws. The revised information is on the website at http://www.ciinet.org/nbarc/content/draft-constitution-laws-and-memorand... [8] If the above link doesn't work CLICK on ARCHIVE\Documentation and you will find it there. There are PDF and printer friendly versions. Well that is about it for right now. Hopefully we'll see you at coffee or hear you on the net. 73/Drew VE3MAF

10-02 (February 10) Meeting Report

Body:

The NBARC February meeting was held Wednesday February 10th, 2010.
In attendance were (apologies to anyone I missed) VA3SPT, VA3BDR, VE3YO, VE3NLH, VA3PC, VA3DLJ, VA3AUL, VA3MPR, VE3XKB, VE3KAA, VA3WAC, KD8LWV, Eric Grigg, Mike Andrews.
We actually had to get extra chairs.
1) Treasurers report; We have $2595.68 in the bank with a number of dues paid at the meeting. Dues are $20.00 for the year. Bruce VA3BDR is ALWAYS willing to take money.
2) NETS; 2M net runs Monday mornings from 0700ET-0800ET. Dave VE3GTM is your net controller and has on an average 8-10 check-ins. Thanks Dave.
80M net runs Sundays from 0900ET until there are no more check-ins, somewhere between 0930ET and 0945ET. Paul VA3PC is getting 8-10 check-ins as well. Thanks Paul.
3) ARES; Paul and Bill attended the city CEMPAC meeting. The next meeting  is April 15th. The NBARC Emergency Plan was up to date last year. It will be being reviewed this spring with particular attention being paid to the call-out tree.
4) Fleamarkets; Brampton is March 27th. Durham is April 17th. I believe I have one spare seat in the van for Durham. I'll send out more in March as the time gets closer.
5) Ham Course; We have 5-6 prospective students. We are still working on the format so watch the web site for updates. I'll send around an update when I hear more.
6) Contests; March 27th-28th is the CQWW WPX contest. They are going to be running the contest from the Corbeil Contest Site. It may be the last contest run from the farm as the property is up for sale. Watch the website for updates.
7) RAC; Paul read the directors report. RAC is the only organization that Industry Canada recognizes as the voice of Amateurs.
8) EVENTS; The Kiwanis Winter Triathalon is being run this weekend from the Nordic Ski Club. We will not be assisting due to lack of volunteers. Lost in the Rocks and Trees (LOTR) is starting at a new location this year although the course will be generally the same as last year. Bill VA3SPT and possibly a few others will be checking out the new location as there are some terrain issues. Nothing new on Summer in the Park at this time.
9) INCORPORATION; Paul updated the website with the most recent information. He has the appropriate forms for names and signatures and will bring them to the March meeting.
10) CANWARN; We are planning a CANWARN session. Tentatively May 18th or 19th. Watch the website for further updates when the dates and location (probably OPP boardroom) are confirmed.
11) Fred Watt VE3AVQ became a SK on Tuesday at the age of 82. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption at 1000ET Saturday February 13th 2010. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Near North Palliative Care Network, or a charity of your choice. We will miss Fred.
12) Paul VA3PC, in Howard VE3GMG's absence moved the meeting be adjourned. Howard is going to have to designate a proxy when he isn't there as we keep waiting for him to adjourn the meeting. A 50/50 draw was held afterwards.
That is it for now. Check the website for updates.

10-03 (March 10th) Meeting Report

Body:

The NBARC March 2010 meeting was held March 10th at the fire hall on base. In attendance were, (my apologies to anyone I missed), VA3OZ, VA3DLJ, VA3PC, VE3MAA, VA3BDR, KD8LWV, VE3NLH, VA3VJS, VE3YO, VE3XKB, VE3YUI, VA3MPR, VE3LOR, VE3GMG, VA3JGH, VE3ELD, VA3WAC, VE3SPT, Eric Grigg.
1) CANWARN Training is going to be held Wednesday May 19th 2010 1900ET at the OPP Comm Centre on Goremanville Road. The CANWARN Training will take the place of the NBARC May meeting so there will NOT be a meeting on May 12th. I will send out reminders as the date gets closer. Paul needs to know how many are planning to attend (coffee and snacks etc) so PLEASE sign up on the website or send him an e-mail va3pc@ciinet.org [10].
2) Check into the NBARC Website. Paul has updated it in a couple of areas. He has posted a Swap Shop area. For those studying for their Amateur ticket (or anyone else with a question) there is an ELMER section. Post your questions here and we’ll come up with answers.
3) NETS: 2M net is still running Mondays 0700ET til 0800ET. Most check-ins are on VE3ERX 147.030 but Dave VE3GTM monitors both repeaters. He is running 8-10 check-ins per week. 80M net runs Sundays 0900ET until Paul VA3PC runs out of check-ins. Again 8-10 check-ins per week.
4) REPEATERS: Both Repeaters are still up and running. Ve3NFM needs a new back-up battery.
5) ARES: Not much to report. The trailer is out of the snow bank. We have a number of VHF/UHF antennas on different buildings through-out the city. Bill VA3SPT and Doug VA3DLJ are going to be testing all the antennas to confirm that they are still functional over the next little while. (BILL GET IN TOUCH WITH DOUG!!)
6) FLEAMARKETS: The Durham Hamfest is April 17th in Whitby. We have 2 vehicles going down and we have 3 possibly 4 vacant seats. If you want to go let me know VE3MAF@rac.ca [11] and we will arrange something.
7) COURSES: We have 6 virtual students working on their ticket. We are going arrange a Saturday or Sunday where we can get together with them to go over problem areas, answer questions etc. I will let you know more when I know more.
8) CONTEST CLUB: he next contest is the CQ WPX SSB Contest starting March 26. See the website for more info.
9) RAC Nothing new. The bulletins are all posted on the website for reference.
10) EVENTS:
  a. Summer in the Park; We received a letter requesting our assistance again this year. There are not going to be any concerts at the waterfront. It will be 3 free days with everything concentrated at LEE PARK. Memorial drive will NOT be closed. We would be required until 2300ET Fri. Sat. and Sun nights. With the reduced size we are questioning if we are really required. As well a number of members are not going to be in town to assist. If you are able to assist please sign up on the website or let Bill VA3SPT silver@ontera.net [12] know. Further discussion will take place at the April meeting and a final decision will be made there.
  b. Lost in the rocks and Trees; July 17th is the date. There is a new location for the Start/Finish and thus a few tweaks to the route but otherwise it is the same as last year. I will have more info when it comes out. Again there are a number of members who are going to be out of town so please sign up on the website so we know how many people we will have.
  c. MS Walkathon is May 30th. More info to follow.
  d. Patrick4life is June 13th. More info to follow.
11) INCORPORATION: The papers have been signed. It will take about 6 to 8 weeks for a response.
12) We have been asked, by the Fire Department, to have a representative on the committee that is looking after the new comms system for the City of North Bay. We have a few members that are interested and we will have representation on the committee.
13)  Our next meeting will be held April 17th 2010. That is about all for now.

10-04 (April 14) Meeting Report

Body:

The NBARC April meeting was held Wednesday April 14th at the fire hall on base. I attendance were VA3PC, VE3XB, VE3YO, VE3GMG, VA3DLJ, VE3MAA, VE3YUI, VA3BDR, VE3YYB, VE3LOR, VE3KAA, VA3MPR, VA3SPT, VA3WAC, VE3KAN, VA3JGH, Mike Andrews, John Barry. My apologies to anyone I missed.
NOTE: The MAY MEETING has been postponed one week from May 12th to May 19th. See the CANWARN item at the end of the report.
CORRESPONDENCE: There was a note about Volunteer Appreciation Week. Emergency Preparedness Week is the week of May 2nd - May 8th. May 7th & 8th we are going to have a display set up in Northgate Square. We require a few volunteers to help. Go to the Events List on the web page and sign up if you can help.
ARES: In the next TCA there will be an article on the national training Amateur Radio Database. There is a CEMPC meeting Thursday April 15th. We will be in attendance. the ARES Reflector has changed. the trailer is still at my place. It will be used for Summer in the Park and probably Field Day. Bill VA3SPT would like to get the tower painted this year.
TREASURER: We have a bank balance of $2595.72 and $251.75 in cash.
NETS: 2 mt net is still running well. If you are about the radio between 0700 and 0800 Monday Mornings give Dave VE3GTM a call. He does have some high noise levels in his area so if he doesn't respond right away give him a second chance. 80 mt net is still running Sundays 0900 til 0920 to 0930 approx. 3.768MHz. There are about 10-12 check-ins depending on the day and band conditions. Give Paul VA3PC a shout.
REPEATERS: VE3ERX is working well. Paul was up and checked it out. The time is now correct. He loosened the squelch a little too much. He will tighten it just slightly when he gets a minute. The ECHOLINK/IRLP are still working well. VE3NFM is still running. We are going to get up and finish the work on the building, and the site needs a GOOD cleaning. It also requires a new back-up battery.
WEBSITE: Paul keeps updating it. It is a great place to get information on amateur happenings especially in the area. You an use it to sign up for events. This makes it much easier for the organizers to know what resources they have available. Check it out.
HAMFESTS: he Durham hamfest is Saturday April 17th. There are an number of local hams going. (THE AFTER the hamfest report). VE3MAF, VA3BDR, VE3GMG, VA3AUL, VA3MPR, VA3DLJ VE3YO all attended. The hamfest itself was disappointing in that there were very few private vendors. The big stores were there. I understand that there were a few organizational issues. Hopefully it will be back to normal next year. In spite of the problems, supplies were purchased and a great time was had by all.
RAC: For any of the RAC bulletins see the website. Paul posts them as he gets them.
INCORPORATION: Paul updated the status of our Incorporation. He found that as a NON-PROFIT Organization, for a small fee we can have our previous Incorporation re-activated. We then have to update our directors. The total cost should be about $175.00.
EVENTS: WE NEED VOLUNTEERS. If you can volunteer at an event please go to the website and mark that you will be attending. To sign up go to the website, log in and click on the EVENTS tab. Find the particular event you wish to sign up for and click on the link. Then click the 'attend this event' link at the bottom of the event information. You will notice the text change to 'cancel attendance' to allow you to cancel if you must cancel.
MS Walkathon: This is a 1/2 day event is to be held May 30th. Starts about 0900ET
PATRICK 4 LIFE: This 1/2 day event is to be held June 13th. Starts about 0730ET
FIELD DAY: We are going to operate during Field Day this year. Field day runs the last full weekend in June from 1400ET (1800Z) Saturday June 26th 2101 until 1400ET (1800Z) Sunday June 27th. Set-up starts about noon local time on Saturday. We are going to need volunteers. While we may not operate the full 24 hours straight it is a lot of fun.
TRIATHLON: June 27th starting about 0730ET. This runs til mid to late afternoon.
LOTR: Lost in the Rocks and Trees will be held July 17th in Mattawa. This is an all day event and they usually feed us lunch and have a BBQ after. It is a great event.
MATTAWA CANOE RACE: Another great event to be held July 24th this year. Hopefully Mother Nature will be  in a better mood and keep the thunderstorms away during the race.
SITP: Summer in the Park is being held Friday, Saturday July 30th, 31st and Sunday August 1th this year. Nothing on the holiday Monday. The times are 1100ET to 2300ET daily. It has a GREATLY reduced footprint this year as it is going to be held on Lee Park. There are no trains or concerts to worry about. Paul VA3PC will be running it as Keeling VE3XKB is going to be away. We need 4-5 volunteers per day.
I will have more on the number of volunteers required as time passes.
TRAINING: We have 7-10 students working towards their Amateur Ticket. There is online help through the website. Look under FORUMS and you will find an ELMER Forum where questions can be posted and answers given. We are also going to have face to face meetings and there is always Saturday Coffee. The informal Monday to Friday coffee at the North Bay Mall 1000ET-1100ET can also be used as a resource.
CANWARN TRAINING/NBARC MAY MEETING: The MAY MEETING has been postponed one week from May 12th to May 19th to coincide with the CANWARN TRAINING. The training will start at 1900ET at the OPP Comm Centre on Goremanville Rd. I will post further instruction before the training. Paul needs numbers so he can let the instructors know as well as make sure there is enough coffee and nibblies. If you don't sign up you may not get any goodies!!
We have, again, a busy summer season ahead of us. please sign up and volunteer for any events you can. the organizers really appreciate the help. RAC Radio Amateurs of Canada is our only voice with the governing bodies. As an added incentive to sign up if you do it before June 1st there is no HST applied.
That is it for now. I'll be sending around periodic updates as I get them.
Take Care and i hope to see you at coffee sometime

10-06 (June 9) Meeting Report

Body:

The NBARC June meeting was held Wednesday June 9, 2010. In attendance were VA3SPT, VA3BDR, VE3KAN, VE3ELD, VE3GMG, VE3YUI, VE3YYB, VA3DLJ, VE3YO, VA3PC, VE3XKB, VA3WAC, VE3LOR, John Barry, VE3MAF.
1) CANWARN. The CANWARN Training went well with close to standing room only.
2) Incorporation. NBARC was incorporation was re-activated as of May 4, 2010. The next step is to inform RAC so we can be covered under their liability insurance. While amateurs do not need to be RAC members they must be an NBARC member in good standing to be covered. RAC membership has two advantages; a) RAC members do get some personal liability coverage. b)NBARC costs are reduced for each club member that is also a RAC member. RAC is our national voice. If you are nor a RAC member you should consider it even only if for the liability coverage. Thanks to Paul and Bruce for their hard work.
3) Equipment. We received a note from Jean-Jacques Paquette VA3JJP. He has a complete station to donate to a new amateur. Bill will be getting more info and working out the details. As well Dorthy Taylor has donated all of Bob's VE3YS equipment to the club. We are also looking at donations to new amateurs. There is some incentive to get your ticket.
4) NETS. The 2M net is still running Mondays 0700-0800. Dave VE3GTM still has some interference but it is his location. Keep trying because he usually can get you after a few tries. 80M net is still running with 8-10 check-ins usually. Paul's new antenna gets out just great and hears noise very well. he is working on the hearing problem.
5) Repeaters. Both repeaters are working well. The VE3URU system has been updated. Take a look at VE3URU.com for more details.
6)Website. there was a small hiccup with the website. 'CRON' didn't want to do what it was requested to do. After Paul got it back on track it sent out some messages twice.
7) SK. It just came to our attention that Lorrain VE3LBF became a SK in February. Lorrain was well known on Manitoulin Island and surrounding areas. She had a phenomenal memory and could remember when she talked to you even if it had only been once.
8) ARES. There future training for EC's and AEC's. Bill will keep us informed.
9) Hamfests. The Dayton Hamvention was a great adventure. A great time was had by all. The Sudbury/Manitoulin groups are planning a Northern Ontario Hamfest at the Walden Arena in Lively. Date October 16, 2010 0900-1200. More to follow.
10) RAC News. The RAC bulletins get posted on the website. The main note is the special event call sign CF3NAVY for the Canadian Navy anniversary celebrations.
11) SITP. July 30,31 August 1. Summer In The Park has been scaled back this year and we will be scaling back as well. It is self contained around Lee Park. Memorial Drive will be closed between Queen and Judge only. We don't see a need for our trailer. Set-up and take down should be much quicker. Paul will have more later.
12) LORT. July 17th. Lost in the Rocks and Trees. Nothing new. There may be a few communication complications due to terrain and lack of hydro. More to follow.
13) Mattawa Canoe Race. July 24th. We are doing it again. Bill is looking for assistance. This is a great event (thunderstorms and torrential downpours excepted). Come out and have some fun. more to follow.
14) Triathlon. June 27th. This is coming up fast. The bike route is changed this year. Instead of coming back down Lees Rd they are going out Widdifield Stn Rd (past my place) and back in Hwy 63. We do need help. More to follow.
15) Field Day. We are not going to be participating as a club in Field Day this year. The conflict with the triathlon and the fact that we have a summer full of events leaves us short of people.
16) Bill got a call from the Ecology Centre. He is now playing voice mail tag to get more info.
17) Ham Course. Nothing new. Hopefully the students are getting somewhere. If you are stuck on something post a note on the website or drop Paul va3pc@ciinet.org [10] Bruce brucer@vianet.ca [13] or myself a_riddell@xplornet.ca [14] a note and we'll see what we can do. Don't forget about the donated radio equipment.
18) Show and Tell. Gerry showed his compact APRS tracking set-up. He and Drew demonstrated simple text messaging using the APRS network.
Well that is it for right now. I will be attempting to keep you updated as the summer progresses.
REMEMBER NO July or August meeting. Our next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday September 8th, 2010. that is the Wednesday after Labour Day and the kids will be back at school.
Have a great safe summer. Drop out to coffee to keep in touch

Body:

The NBARC September meeting opened promptly at 1945ET. It was held in the OPP Comm Centre boardroom. In attendance were, VA3SPT, VA3BDR, VE3XKB, VE3LOR, VE3YO, VE3MAA, VE3YUI, VA3DLJ, VA3CMX, KD8LWV, VE3ELD, VE3GMG, VE3KAA, VE3KAN, VA3PC, VE3MAF.
CORRESPONDANCE: The North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority gave us a donation and thanked us for our participation in the Mattawa River Canoe Race. They will be looking for our assistance again next year.
TREASURER: There were $120.00 in dues over the summer.
NETS: 2M net is still running 0700ET-0800ET Monday mornings. Check in with Dave VE3GTM. If you don't get him right away keep trying. He is still having troubles as he isn't in the best location.
80M net gets between 6-10 check-ins depending on propagation. Sundays 0900 3768KHz (+/- QRM). Paul VA3PC is always looking for new check-ins.
Repeaters: VE3NFM 147.300 is temporarily off the air. Mice had taken up residence in the equipment to keep warm and they tripped a fuse. The walls need to be finished and some mouse proofing applied. We will be working up a work party some Saturday or Sunday. Watch the website for more info.
VE3ERX is working well. The IRLP/Echolink is working well as well. The VE3ERX clock is losing about 11 seconds a month. The club is purchasing two Real Time Clock Modules. One for each repeater. They are a very accurate module that will keep the clocks more accurate.
WEBSITE: The website is working well. Paul is always open to suggestions for improvements. All events have an 'attend' biutton that you just click and it marks you as attending the event. If you are planning to attend an event please indicate on the website by clicking the 'attend' button. This is very helpfull to the co-ordinators of the events as they know what they have to work with and they don't have to scramble to scare up more volunteers.
ARES: Nothing new at this time. the trailer is still parked at my place. Due to the downsizing of Summer in the PARK it wasn't needed this year.
HAMFESTS: Saturday October 16th is the First Annual Northern Ontario Hamfest in Lively Ontario. it is sponsored by the Sudbury and Manitoulin Island Clubs. 9AM open and ONLY $2.00 entry. http://rac.eton.ca/events/detail.php?event_ID=1435 [15] for more info. There are a number of North Bay Hams planning on attending so if you need a ride I'm sure there will be one available. Saturday November 6th is the York Regional Hamfest in Markaham Ontario. There are a number of us going down. If there are any free spaces in my van I'll let you know via the website. It is always a fun time. http://rac.eton.ca/events/detail.php?event_ID=1402 [16] for more info.
CONTEST CLUB: Status Quo for now. Updates will be posted on the website.
RAC: All the RAC bulletins are available on the NBARC website. There is a lot of discussion abpout "RE-INVENTING" the organization. They are talking to both members and non-members and are looking for feedback. To see what is happening and to get in on the discussion take a look at http://racblog.wordpress.com/ [17] . RAC membership is a worthwhile investment. Along with other things it gets you Liability Insurance.  Paul gave a short talk about RAC and specifically the QSL bureau.
INCOROPRATION: We are now incorporated. In the fall we will be looking aththe RAC Club Liability Insurance. There iis a reduction in cost for each NBARC member who is also a RAC member. I do encourage you to become a RAC member if you are not already.
EVENTS: We had a number of events over the summer. They all went well with no real problems. There is a foot race in Mattawa Septenber 25th. There is more info on the website. If you are able to attend please sign up on the website. October 17th is the "Our Hospital Walk/Run". This is a fun 1/2 day event and we are finished by noonish. Again sign up on the website and make life easier for the co-ordinator.
That is it for right now. I won't be here in October as I'll be at the cottage R&Ring so hopefully someone else will take some notes.  Updates will be announced via the website. Mark October 13th on your calendar as our next meeting.

Discussion Ensued. Doug VA3DLJ volunteered to host the Scouts in the future.
There being no further business, Howard moved adjournment @ 20:25

Please sign up on the website to let us know you are coming. We need 25-30 in attendance to get the room at no cost. It is a great time and we don't stay out late. Hope to see you there!!
No correspondance.
No treasurer report. in January.
No new hams or members were present.
2 MTR net is still running. 0700-0800 Mondays and Dave VE3GTM is your net controller.
80 MTR net is still running. 0900 - ? Sundays 3.768 MHz. Paul VA3PC is your net controller. Averaging between 4 and 10 check-ins depending on propagation.
Echolink and IRLP are running well. Paul has the new real time clocks and will be installing it in VE3ERX shortly. VE3NFM is still off the air for a few repairs. VE3NFM-15 the APRS digi is now back up and running well. The radio didn't re-boot when the power came back on. This Saturday November 13th after coffee there is a work party at the repeater shack to finish up the last of the winterizing and de-mousing.
The NBARC Website looks good and is running well. Paul is going to be adding some security updates. He will also be looking at updating the ARES portion of the website.
Nothing new on the ARES front. the trailer is still at my place. The HF rigs are at Bill's place. There should be only antennas and a few other little things in the trailer.
HAMFESTS. Lively was held in October. it was well attended and a very good show for a First Time. they are looking at making it better next year. Everyone i talked to had a great time. York was held last weekend. It was a good show as well. We all had fun. Unfortunately our normal food place was closed. Next year we will run across to Haugins where the food is always good. The distances are just about identical.
There is no news from the Contest Club.
Paul read a couple of RAC bulletins. RAC is going to change the way it does business but it is going to take some time. For more info and the complete bulletins see the website. Paul posts all the bulletins there.
The committee looking after the equipment donated to the club is still working. They are getting up an inventory and looking at all aspects including loaning of equipment procedures. There should be more in january.
Incorporation is complete. We are now waiting on the insurance and that is tied to the number of club members that are RAC members. RAC is our national body and with industry always looking for more we should be supporting them. A RAC membership also reduces our costs and you get insurance with it.
The CEMPC for the city had a tour of the new water treatment facility in January. It was evidently quite interisting and LARGE.
The Hospital Walk/Run in October went quite well. Everything was handled on simplex. The course is probably going to change next year. They raised something in the area of $25K so am told.
Our next scheduled meeting is January 12th 2011. The meeting place is tentativelt at the OPPCC but until Paul gets that confirmed it is still tentative. I'll send an update when i get it.
Howard Moved adjournment. Coffee was held at TDH afterwards.

Well after a few frustrating days, its off and crawling (my forehead may take a week to recover). I finally tracked down the last bit of info I needed to implement the software. The TNC now resides on the echoIRLP box connected to the serial port. I've temporarily used my top VHF antenna until I can get a side mount installed in the spring. The I-Gate software is java based - javAPRSSrvr written by Pete AE5PL. A status page is available at http://www.ciinet.org:14501 [23] The interesting stuff is near the bottom - it shows the number of stations heard locally on RF. I've read that any text messages sent over the network to local RF users will be gatewayed to RF until their callsign drops off the "active local" list - which is defined as 30 minutes. Anything that does come through the I-Gate will be digi'd via VE3NFM-15 Any issues, please let me know. Any Questions - I'll try and find the answer (no breath holding please - you may turn blue). 73 Paul
