1. Amateur Payloads Lost in Antares Launch Explosion

The RACE and GOMX-2 CubeSats were among more than 2 dozen satellites
lost after an unmanned Orbital Space Sciences (OSC) Antares 130
vehicle exploded 6 seconds after launch on Tuesday, October
28. Both satellite packages carried Amateur Radio payloads.

The RACE (Radiometer Atmospheric Cubesat Experiment) was built by a

3. AMSAT-OSCAR-7 40th Anniversary

AMSAT-OSCAR 7 (AO-7) was launched on November 15, 1974. It was the
second AMSAT-NA constructed and Phase 2 amateur radio satellite
launched into Low Earth Orbit. It operated until a short circuit in
a battery in 1981. In June 2002 the battery became an open circuit,
and the satellite's 2-metre beacon (145.9775 MHz CW) was heard again
after 21 years of silence, and 27 years in space. AO-7 remains
semi-operational, powered only when its solar panels are in
sunlight.

Special event station W7O (Whiskey Seven Oscar) will operate between
15 and 24 November 2014, working satellites and possibly other
bands, to commemorate the anniversary.

long dash" which officially indicated 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Since then, the National Research Council's official time signal has
been broadcast regularly, making it the longest-running feature on
CBC Radio.
