NATIONAL NEWS

1. RAC Scholarships deadline approaching

Earlier this year, RAC announced the availability of scholarships to
young Amateurs who are taking post-secondary schooling in Electrical,
Electronic and Software Engineering. Students in other fields of
study will be considered on a case-by-case basis. You must be a
licensed Amateur and we remind everyone that the deadline for
applications is July 31, 2014.

2. Canal Days Special Event

On August 2nd and 3rd, the Niagara Peninsula Amateur Radio Club will
operate station VE3WCD as part of Port Colborne's Canal Days Marine
Heritage Festival, held annually to celebrate the long history of the
Welland Canal. Operation will be 9 am to 5 pm Eastern Time, both
days. For more information visit www.nparc.on.ca and click on

3. August Special Callsigns

From August 1 to August 31, special call sign VX9CMA will commemorate
the 2014 World Acadian Congress. QSL via VE9RLW.

Also from August 1 to 31, call sign CF3NAVY will commemorate the
100th Anniversary of Submarines in Canada. QSL via VA3OR.

From August 5 to September 15, call sign VC3A will commemorate the
150th Anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference. QSL via VE3JO.

4. Add Your Callsign to your Facebook Profile

Facebook has made a way for Hams to add their callsign to their
profile. Here's how: open up "Settings," and under "General Account
Settings," on the line that says "Name", click "Edit". Enter your
callsign in the space marked "Alternate name", and check the box for
"Include this on my timeline". Enter your password, click "Save
Changes", and you're done. Your callsign will appear under your
name.

5. WRTC on "As It Happens"

On CBC Radio's program "As It Happens", Jeff VY2ZM was interviewed by
Rick MacInnes-Rae about the World Radiosport Team Championship
(WRTC). Jeff did a great job of presenting Amateur Radio, contesting
and WRTC. To hear it, go to tinyurl.com/qxl2u3o (Quebec Xray Lima
Two Uniform Three Oscar) and look for the 10 July edition. The
interview should come on about half-way through the podcast.
