NATIONAL NEWS

1. Look for VE3RCMP during Field Day

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police amateur radio Group in Ottawa will
be operating a Special Event Station VE3RCMP during the Field Day
contest weekend, June 28-29. They plan also to activate the call
sign during the RAC Canada Day Contest July 1st.

The Special Event commemorates the 75th anniversary of the first RCMP
owned and operated radio-to-patrol-car dispatch system that was
commissioned in the fall of 1939. VE3RCMP during Field Day will be
operated by current and retired members of what is currently known as
the RCMP National Radio Services Directorate, Ottawa.

2. RAC volunteer recognition: VE2QK

Radio Amateurs of Canada recognizes and honors Jacques Dubé VE2QK for
20 years of true continuous volunteer dedication. In 1994, Jacques
Dubé took over the VE2 QSL Incoming Bureau, and he has been handling
it on his own since 1996. To date Jacques has handled well over
600,000 QSL cards. From RAC and all those who benefit from your
dedication to the QSL Bureau: a huge thank you!

3. RAC Report for June

4. Two-Metre Transatlantic Attempt

A group of amateur radio operators from Atlantic Canada will operate
from Pouch Cove, Newfoundland, from 4-12 July in a bid to complete a
two metre transatlantic QSO and claim the Brendan Trophy. Station
VC1T will use WSJT digital modes on 144.155 MHz. If WSJT is
successful, CW or SSB will be attempted. For details and daily

5. Baofeng Changes Name to Pofung

Radio supplier Baofeng has changed its product distribution name to
Pofung for all sales outside China. Baofeng is a literal translation
of its Chinese character name. The company says the new name of
Pofung is easier to pronounce and more friendly to its customers,
while maintaining the phonetic symbolism of its brand. The company's
official web domain www.baofengradio.com will remain unchanged.

6. REACT is Not Just CB Radio

REACT International is a network of communicators who assist their
communities in times of emergency or disaster. While often associated
with CB Radio, the organization has widened its focus to embrace
amateur radio, GMRS, FRS, and MURS. Their emergency communications
course is similar to the ARRL course, but is free. Find the course
