NATIONAL NEWS
1. RAC seeks Public Information Officer
The Radio Amateurs of Canada Field Organization National Secretariat
is seeking the services of a Public Information Officer (PIO), to
report to the Vice President Field Services.
Candidates will need the ability to plan an conduct a public
information program, to use and evaluate public relations media, to
write and edit promotional material, to discern and collect
newsworthy materials, to speak effectively in public, and to work
effectively with RAC Affiliated Clubs and the RAC Bulletin Service.
You will assist Section Managers in the recruiting and training of
PIO's for each RAC Section.

2. ARISSat-1 Deployment
After a postponed deployment in February from the International
Space Station, the ARISSat-1/KEDR amateur radio satellite is
expected to begin its mission on August 3, 2011. After it is
deployed, ARISSat-1/KEDR is expected to be in orbit for up to six

3. The CW Open
The CW Open contest will be held on August 20-21, as three
independent four-hour competitions: 1200-1559Z and 2000-2359Z on the
20th, and 0400-0759Z on the 21st. You can enter one, two, or all
three. The object is to work as many CW stations as possible, on
160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 metres. Exchange serial number and

4. ARRL Online Forums
The ARRL has established three on-line discussion forums --
Contesting, Awards and Technology -- on the ARRL website, at
www.arrl.org/forums. Anyone can read these forums, but you must ben
an ARRL member to post.

5. Ottawa ARISS Contact
On July 14, the City of Ottawa Sports Recreation Camp took part in an
Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact.
Telebridge station W6SRJ in California provided the connection. 125
students, twelve counselors and many parents watched as the youth
asked 16 questions of ISS crew member Ron Garan, KF5GPO. Global TV
aired the story nationally and Your Ottawa Region posted an article
on its site, at tinyurl.com/427tv88

6. Young Ham of the Year
Eleven-year-old Kaitlyn Cole, KS3P, of Harvest, Alabama, has been
chosen as Amateur Radio Newsline's 2011 Young Ham of the Year. Among
other noteworthy achievements, Cole served as a Net Control Station
during two weeks of emergency nets following the southeast tornado
outbreak of April 27, 2011. Kaitlyn is the 26th Newsline Young Ham
of the Year, and the youngest to date.
