NATIONAL NEWS
1. ARES Mission Statement Adopted
After recommendation from the RAC Field Organization National
Secretariat and the Vice President Field Service Council, the Section
Managers have approved Mission and Vision statements for RAC ARES:
Mission - "The mission of the RAC/ARES is to be an effective partner
in emergency and disaster response by providing emergency managers
and responders with radio communications expertise, capability and
capacity, supplied by qualified and credentialed ARES volunteer
radio communicators."
Vision - "To be valued for our knowledge and expertise in radio
communication by the organizations that we serve."
I believe that these statements reflect who we are and who we aspire
to be. I thank each of you who gave freely of your personal time
and imagination in achieving this important milestone.

2. VE3FFK Appointed
I am very pleased to announce that Mike Kelly VE3FFK has joined the
RAC National Field Organization Secretariat as EP Canada Advisor.
With a wealth of Emergency Preparedness knowledge and experiance, he
will be a much needed presence in the Ottawa area in dealing with
both the Federal and Provincial governments on matters relating to
Wireless Radio Interoperability.

3. Manitoba Declares "Amateur Radio Week"
The Province of Manitoba has declared June 20-24th as "Amateur Radio
Week." The Proclamation, posted at www.mts.net/~warc, was signed by
the Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization
(EMO), Steve Ashton. Credit for this goes to the Public Information
Officer for the Winnipeg Amateur Radio Club, Jim Sutton, VE4SIG.

4. Milton Hamfest
The Burlington Amateur Radio Club will hold its Ontario Hamfest on
Saturday, July 9, at the Milton Agricultural Fairgrounds in Milton.
